Siberian Cats

The Siberian cat (formerly known as the Siberian Forest Cat) is a fascinating cat breed with Russian roots. It is a natural breed with an impressive history and distinctive characteristics.

It originates from Russia, specifically Siberia, and developed as a natural breed without any breeding influences.

For a long time it was simply a practical mouse hunter, adapted to the harsh climate. It was not until the end of the 1980s that its systematic breeding and distribution in Europe began.

Siberian Neva Masquerade

The Neva Masquerade is the sister breed or colourpoint variant of the Siberian cat. It carries the Siamese gene for colourpoint, resulting in darker markings on the extremities of the body and light blue eyes. Neva Masquerade kittens (such as Siamese cats, Ragdolls, Sacred Birman cats and Snowshoe cats) are always born white because in colder temperatures the colours develop on the extremities, i.e. the nose/face, paws/legs and tail. The body gets slightly darker with age. Also, some areas of the body, including the extremities, may be overlaid with white (non-colour), so the cat may have a white muzzle and/or white paws.

What exactly is a hypoallergenic cat?

Hypoallergenic cats are breeds that produce or distribute fewer allergens, making them potentially more tolerable for people with cat allergies. It is important to stress that no cat is completely hypoallergenic, but some breeds may be better suited for allergy sufferers.

Siberian cat: Despite its long fur, it often produces less fur (D1), which leads to fewer allergic reactions. We offer interested parties the opportunity to arrange a trial cuddle appointment in our cattery.

Character Traits

The energetic Siberians are known for their playful and adventurous nature, but at the same time they are very friendly and sociable. They are often used as therapy dogs in senior homes or in homes with autistic children. The breed is known for its dog-like behavior, which is due to its affectionate and extremely loyal personality. This intelligent breed learns easily and has even been known to be able to learn to fetch. They are very social and prefer to be included in all activities of a household. Siberians are fascinated by water and don’t mind getting a little wet.

The Siberian is a vocal cat, although not in terms of volume, but in frequency. It is capable of producing a wide range of different sounds. Its melodious chirping voice and deep, resonant purr are famous.
